That quick updo, that fresh colour, that new cut that that shakes off winter and puts that “spring” in your step – pardon the pun! And while I might not be able to put on my favourite white eyelet dress with these cold temps, I can definitely look at some hair inspiration to compliment my upcoming seasonal wardrobe.
Spring hair colour pop
As you may already know, I’m a blond. After several years and several test runs I have the blond I’ve always wanted – certainly with the help of color “wizards” that are true pros. I personally love high lights and caramel low lights combined on a creamy base.
On the Saint Laurent and Miu Miu runways we saw powdery blond the lightest and whitest. Creamy blond is the Goldilocks of blond – not too bleached, not too warm, just right. Remember a time when we didn’t want our hair to look yellow blond? That’s no longer. Keep in mind these are trends and that you should always consult with a professional on what shade best suits you. A couple of other shades that are interesting this season are Apricot and Rose. Again, not for everyone, but some can really pull this off if it compliments your skin tone. For the other colors, spring trends point to intensity. Black is inky. Brunette is cool-toned, smoky and woody. Ginger is more of a high-temp red. I am also loving this French technique Balayage which is more of a hand-painted aesthetic and of course ombré which is more shadow like.
Springing into style
I love a good blow dry, voluminous waves and freshly trimmed bangs – especially when you don’t have to crush it down with a winter hat. Glossy hair, always a good look – speak to your stylist about the right treatment for you. With the help of a large-barrel curling iron, brushed out curls are meant to be shown off. I also love putting my hair up into a messy bun. I’ll loosely brush a high pony, fanning out the tail and pinning it in place piece by piece. It’s romantic and sexy. And it looks fabulous with day to night looks.
The fresh cut
Runways for Spring 2019 were like live, walking Pinterest boards for new spring hair inspiration. Blunt or shaggy bob: Bouncy, healthy hair comes with a good trim that evens out the edges and dry ends. So, don’t be scissor shy – cut off a few inches. Whether it is mid-length or at the jawline it is really chic and fresh.
Curtain bangs or a fringe: This is a soft and sultry look that you can add to any length, I love mine, but they are maintenance. They look terrific with a ponytail.
Beachy textured waves: This is just the right amount of a wave – when partnered with a great color choice this look is magnificent.
Long wispy layers: This gives beautiful movement and great for a messy updo.
Natural curls: Very much on trend and if you are fortunate enough to have them, you’re ahead of game. With the right haircut, and the right product and the right tools your curly hair will look gorgeous.
Love, love, love – we saw them on the runway, but this is a wonderful way to add to those beautiful locks of yours. It could be a bedazzled clip, elaborate bobby pins, simple ribbons and yes, flowers faux or real. How gorgeous in a loose knotted braid?
